چکیده

The (well-known) quantum mechanical expression for the stress tensor is derived and applied to obtain a formula for the pressure in the average-atom model. This average-atom pressure formula reduces to the (well-known) expression for the pressure in a classical free-electron gas when the average-atom continuum wave functions are replaced by free-electron wave functions. 1 Derivation We start with the time-dependent Schrödinger equation for an electron in a potential V (r), − h̄ i ∂ψ ∂t = − h̄ 2 2m ∇2ψ + V ψ (1) The expectation value of i-th component of the electron’s momentum inside a region R is 〈pi〉 = ∫ R dτ ψ†piψ. (2) The rate of increase of momentum in R is d dt 〈pi〉 = ∫ R dτ [ ∂ψ† ∂t piψ + ψ†pi ∂ψ ∂t ] = − ih̄ 2m ∫ R dτ [ ∇2ψ†piψ − ψ†pi∇2ψ ] − i h̄ ∫ R dτ ψ† [piV − V pi]ψ. (3)

Flow Variables Prediction Using Experimental, Computational Fluid Dynamic and Artificial Neural Network Models in a Sharp Bend

Bend existence induces changes in the flow pattern, velocity profiles and water surface. In the present study, based on experimental data, first three-dimensional computational fluid dynamic (CFD) model is simulated by using Fluent two-phase (water + air) as the free surface and the volume of fluid method, to predict the two significant variables (velocity and channel bed pressure) in 90º sharp...

Novel Atom-Type-Based Topological Descriptors for Simultaneous Prediction of Gas Chromatographic Retention Indices of Saturated Alcohols on Different Stationary Phases

In this work, novel atom-type-based topological indices, named AT indices, were presented as descriptors to encode structural information of a molecule at the atomic level. The descriptors were successfully used for simultaneous quantitative structure-retention relationship (QSRR) modeling of saturated alcohols on different stationary phases (SE-30, OV-3, OV-7, OV-11, OV-17 and OV-25). At first...

Optimal Control Pressure for Leakage Minimization in Water Distribution Systems Using Imperialist Competitive Algorithm

One of the key factors affecting leakage in water distribution systems is network pressure management by putting Pressure Reduce Valves (PRV) in the flow path and optimal regulation of these vales in water networks. This study aimed at investigating optimal pressure management problems so as to minimize leakage in water distribution networks. To do so, an approach was proposed for both optimal ...
